Why choose STEPtherapeutic?
I started STEPtherapeutic because I am deeply passionate about helping people understand themselves, heal and move forward.
Throughout my career, I have seen a significant rise in SEMH needs alongside increasing pressures on schools and families and fewer funding avenues available to support them. I have seen first-hand how this can leave schools, children and families feeling overwhelmed and unsupported.
I wanted to create something that could help bridge that gap.
STEPtherapeutic offers practical, accessible and evidence-informed therapeutic and SEMH support, empowering schools, children and families with the knowledge, understanding and strategies they need to feel more confident and supported.
My approach is relational, trauma-informed and person-centred. I believe that behaviour is communication and that, behind many of the difficulties we see, there is a story that deserves to be understood.
Therapy
Therapy provides a safe space to slow down, be heard and explore what may be happening beneath the surface.
Whether working with a child through play, supporting a young person through conversation, or working with an adult to explore experiences, emotions and patterns, I believe therapy should happen at the pace of the individual.
Together, we may explore emotions, relationships, self-esteem, anxiety, difficult experiences, patterns of thinking and behaviour, and the beliefs we can develop about ourselves and the world around us.
The aim isn't to simply “fix” what feels difficult.
It is about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, building self-compassion and finding healthier ways to cope, connect and move forward.
Supporting schools
Alongside therapeutic work, STEPtherapeutic provides SEMH consultancy and support for schools, helping staff to develop a deeper understanding of children's emotional and behavioural needs.
This includes support with SEMH strategy, nurture provision, Boxall Profile, intervention planning, sensory needs, graduated response, staff training and trauma-informed practice.
I work collaboratively with schools, helping them move beyond simply asking:
“How do we stop this behaviour?”
and instead ask:
“What is this child communicating, and what do they need from us?”
I believe that when we understand the why behind behaviour, we are in a much stronger position to provide the right support.
My mission
At the heart of STEPtherapeutic is a simple belief:
Every person deserves to feel understood, supported and able to flourish.
I am inspired every day by the resilience of children, the dedication of families and the commitment of the professionals who support them.
Whether you are a parent looking for support, an adult wanting to understand yourself more deeply, or a school wanting to strengthen its SEMH provision, STEPtherapeutic is here to help you take your next step.
Understand. Connect. Support. Grow.
Helping people flourish, one STEP at a time.
What I believe
I believe every child has a story, and that behaviour is often a way of communicating something they don't yet have the words to express. Children need to feel safe, understood and accepted before they can begin to make sense of their emotions and experiences. I believe in looking beyond the behaviour, understanding the child as a whole and giving them the space to explore, grow and develop at their own pace. Every child is capable of growth, and sometimes they just need someone to see what is underneath and help them take their next STEP.
